We will introduce you to a group of like-minded people and a mentor to train and support you. Your mentor expert will help you learn ways to counter, avoid and respond to hate. You will learn how to deal with online hate messages using an exciting AI assistant that identifies hate and recommends responses.
We will ask you to help us out for 4-5 hours per month, just by being present on social media and working as a team to flood social media with positivity and countering the haters. We will provide memes to share, campaigns to join and great people to meet and talk to.
We are a EU-funded project designed to reclaim social media for nice folks. We will train a team of you to work together, learn together and stand up to hate together.
There is no fee for the training, mentoring or support we offer.
Detect Then Act is a network of citizens, social workers, linguists, artists, academics, engineers, students, security and legal experts from all over Europe. We combine human activism with advances in technology to monitor online hate speech. We launch campaigns with positive counternarratives, to promote bystanders to stand up to racism, sexism and verbal aggression on social media.
As a member in our network, you’ll have access to all sorts of learning materials, from academic studies to new apps and step-by-step diagrams of local laws.
The junior
“With everything going on now (BLM, corona crisis, climate change) it seems the internet is becoming a place full of hate and anger. People are more afraid of each other and I notice it is dividing our society. I want to be part of the team that spreads positivity so that our society can become a better place.”
The senior
“As an older person who thinks our relationships with others should be based on respect, I view the uncontrolled growth of online knee-jerk hatred with dismay. I have an appreciation of the power of language in defining identity and I would like to help in any way I can to help mitigate this hatred.”
The outsider
“As a muslim immigrant, I have come across hate speech in real life as well as on social media, not to mention the hate I see towards many others. I’m hoping to learn more about how to respond properly and affectively. This is so important, not to just scroll and ignore what’s being said.”
The insider
“Hate speech makes me so sad. But knowing that the majority of people don’t dare to stand up against hate makes me even more sad. I would like to know how we can get the silent middle ground to speak up against it.”
